Wax On, Wax Off: Mastering the Art of Waxing Your Surfboard with Eco Surf Wax

Surfing starts before you hit the water, surfboard preparation is crucial to setting you up for success and ensuring your feet stick when they need to. This blog will guide you through best practices on how to wax a surfboard.

Choosing a Surf Wax

Surfing is more than just catching waves; it's about connecting with the ocean. That's why choosing eco-friendly products like Eco Surf Wax is a crucial step in your surfing journey. First let’s highlight the benefits of choosing natural and eco-friendly surf wax options.

Why Choose Eco Surf Wax?

Traditional paraffin based surf waxes often contain harmful chemicals that can pollute our oceans. Eco Surf Wax is crafted from natural and biodegradable ingredients, minimizing your impact on marine life.

Benefits of Eco Surf Wax:

A surf wax that is environmentally friendly preserves and protects marine ecosystems. A quality eco surf wax can provide high-performance with excellent grip and hold, ensuring you catch every wave.

The natural ingredients such as beeswax and tree resin, organic coconut oil and clay ensure that once it enters the water the wax is biodegradable and breaks down easily on entering the ocean, leaving no harmful residue.

Waxing Your Surfboard: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Clean Your Board: Remove any old wax residue with a wax comb or scraper.
  1. Apply Base Coat: We recommend you start with a base coat and for that we use an Eco Surf Wax for Tropical waters. It’s a harder wax that sets up for better grip. With the tropical wax draw fine lines across the deck in one direction, then repeat with lines in the opposite direction to create a “crosshatch” for a textured surface, maximising grip.
  1. Beading - Next rub a generous layer of the tropical wax across the crosshatch lines and it should start to create lots of little bumps or wax beads across the surfboard deck. This beading is important to allow water to drain from under your feet when you pop up, helping you grip better. Use circular motions to evenly distribute the wax.
  1. Apply Top Coat: Once the base coat is on apply a thin layer of Eco Surf Wax top coat and depending on the water temp you might use either a surf wax for cool or a warm water. This top coat is now your daily wax that you apply before each surf. You can also enhance the set up further with a wax comb, to roughen up the wax before each session in the water.

Tips for Optimal Wax Performance:

  • Consider Water Temperature: Choose the appropriate wax blend for the water temperature Green Planet Surfer offers a tropical/base wax as well as a warm water wax and a cool water wax.
  • Wax Regularly: Re-wax your board before each surf session with your daily top coat to maintain grip.
  • Store Wax Properly: Keep your wax in a cool, dry place to prevent melting.

By choosing Eco Surf Wax and following these simple steps, you can enjoy high-performance surfing while minimizing your environmental impact.
